What If I Ruin My Child?

Have you wondered if homeschooling would ruin your child? If you answered yes, then take comfort, you are not alone. We all struggle at some point with this thought. After all, homeschooling is “on the job” training. When Connie started homeschooling 25 years ago, that is what she thought as well. During this presentation, parents will learn truths from a mom who knows you are not ruining your child.

Nancy Manos and her husband, James, homeschooled their two daughters all the way through high school. The Manos’ home education journey was a rich, rewarding, sometimes-challenging experience, and Nancy is passionate about encouraging others in the homeschool adventure. Nancy and James served together on the board of directors for Arizona Families for Home Education (AFHE) for 13 years and Nancy continues serving the Arizona homeschool community as the Executive Director of AFHE.

Getting Started Homeschooling

You’ve made the decision to homeschool or perhaps you’re exploring homeschooling as an option for your family. What’s next? Nancy will provide some direction as you embark upon this journey of teaching your children at home. We’ll cover ideas for lesson planning, basic supplies to have on hand, creating a schedule that works for your family, the benefits of joining a local homeschool group, how to balance enrichment activities and family life, and more.

Sonya Shafer is a popular homeschool speaker and writer, specializing in the Charlotte Mason Method. She has been on an adventure for more than 20 years studying, researching, practicing, and teaching Charlotte’s gentle and effective methods of education. Her passion for homeschooling her own four daughters grew into helping others and then into Simply Charlotte Mason, which publishes her many books and provides a place of practical encouragement to homeschoolers at simplycharlottemason.com.

Early Years

Give your child what is most important. Instead of academic or social pressures, Charlotte Mason encouraged mothers to give their little ones a full six years of developing good habits, getting acquainted with nature, exploring with the five senses, growing in their spiritual lives, and more. Learn how to give your child a quiet growing time.

Curriculum Approaches

Homeschooling jargon can be confusing even for seasoned homeschool parents. In this workshop, Nancy will give an overview of several of the most common curriculum approaches including textbook, classical, Charlotte Mason, literature-based, unit studies, and eclectic. Nancy will also share examples of curriculum and resources for each approach.
